Today we had a day brief given by Dr Me who are a design company based in Manchester.

Within there talk they told us about how they became a studio and some things about becoming a professional form being a student. They also took us through some of there work and how they came to the end piece and the collaboration they go through on each brief.

Dr Me also told us about some artist to look at, they were:

We were given 3 briefs that we had to complete throughout the day and we were partnered with somebody. I was put with Harrsion.

The Brief

Brief 1

My initial ideas were when listening to the music was a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere, this then took me to think about the colours and places they would be such as a forest, the sea, blues, sky, clouds, heaven. But then doing more research into Duga 3 and the 10hz tapping i brought up a lot of other things, it turned it from being a very  tranquil song to a very depressing gloomy song. The tapping was from a Ukranian radar that was named the Russian Woodpecker to detect missiles during the cold war.

Found imagery

After finding the imagery of the duga 3 Harrison had the idea of printing them out and then using a scanner to scan them back in and moving them around on the scanner so to create a distorted image, this then created levels of repetition that are in the song.

Using Harrison's idea of the scanning manipulation i had the idea of representing the repetition and the radio waves by using a kind of radar signal using circles.

I firstly had this below.

I then crated it using the correct size dimensions for the final vinyl size.

I also added some red behind the image which i thought gave it something different and also represented the soviet union where the cold war was taking place.

I then decided that the original was best because it was the one that represented the song the best creating a gloomy dreary scene and the circles are like the radar and so i put some type on it.
