Brief 6: OUGD603 DSM Branding Brief

Generating some ideas

To start i thought of things that were bad about retirement homes

  • Boring
  • The look, old style
  • Bad food
  • Depressing
  • No connection with community
  • Just left inside all day
  • Not taken out on trips
  • Doesn't have comfy furniture

After identifying the things that were wrong with a retirement home i started to come up with some ideas such as:

  • Having better communication between the community and the retirement home (maybe having volunteers come in and help with the home)
  • Have the older people tell stories and speak to the younger generation
  • Twin 2 homes together, have 2 homes from different parts of the UK or even abroad that the homes swap or spend a few weeks in
  • Have a gourmet retirement home, so the food and everything about it is of a high standard
The 2 ideas i like best are
  • Having homes that have a 'twin' so the people who are inside the homes can get out and visit other places around the world.
  • To have a gourmet retirement home where the food is of a really high standard, not only the food though, also the whole place and the ways in which everything is done, such as the service

Selecting a Name

Paired, Binary, dual, accompanying, binary, copied, corresponding, coupled, double, duplicating, geminate, joint, like, matched, matching, paired, parallel, same, second, bifold, identical, self, same, twofold, very, same

The names i like here are Dual, Binary, Bifold, Twofold

After looking into these names i came up with another idea of having the retirement home in 3 places and not 2, so the people of the home would have 3 places to go to across the world in different countries. I could then still use the names above but the number 3 meaning. SO ternary, third, triad, trichotomy, trilogy, trinity, trio, triplet, threefold for example.

From this list the one i like is Threefold

Having 3 places for the retirement home offers the people of the home a chance to visit places they may not have been before and at no extra cost and also someone who can help them get there and get around etc.
